I was just cleaning out my old DVDs and realised to my surprise that I have somehow acquired an ex-library copy of LIGHT & THE SUFFERER, a film I have never seen any of much less sought a copy. It must have been here for about a decade, as I haven’t touched the back of my movie shelves in that long. I guess an old friend or roommate left it lying around my place and I swept it up onto the shelf without noticing.

Should I bother to put it on and watch? From the blurb on the box and from trailers I’ll say it looks thematically interesting and spooky/gritty/psychological in a way I like, but very slapdash (with hokey CGI) and painfully self-conscious in tone a la student movies. It’s also quite long, and seems to be based on a novel which I have not read. Then there’s the fact I don’t really like Dano’s acting much, either...

I'm not familiar with Dano's movie work, but I think he's fine as Pierre Bezukhov in the War and Peace tv version (2016). Certainly he seems more in character than either Henry Fonda (1956) or Anthony Hopkins (1972) who both seem unconvincing in the Pierre role.

Has anybody seen Wildlife? Is it really that good. Some scenes are online on youtube and Carey Mulligan's (who I love) acting was amazing as is the kid who plays their son. Wish they hadn't chosen Gyllenhaal, he's shit in most movies.
